Male arrested on suspicion of stalking in the local area

You might have heard about or seen social media posts about suspicious behaviour in Skelmersdale and we wanted to give you an update.

Last Wednesday, 26th August, we received a report from a woman who said she had been followed by a man while walking her dog. The following day, a second woman reported a similar incident in the Barnes Road area.

Following these reports, officers from the West Lancashire Neighbourhood Policing Team launched a number of enquiries, carried out extensive patrols and CCTV enquiries to try to identify the man involved.

As a result of this work, a 51-year-old man from Skelmersdale was arrested on 3/9/2026 in the Old Skem area on suspicion of stalking. He has since been bailed while our investigation continues.

We understand that incidents like this can cause concern within our communities, particularly amongst women and girls, but we want to reassure you we have acted swiftly and enquiries remain ongoing.
